Litigation Partner Jeffrey S. Trachtman published a blog post in the Huffington Post on May 1, 2015 giving an overview on the development of LGBT rights over the last fifteen years, viewed through the lens of four Supreme Court oral arguments at which Trachtman was present in the courtroom (and in each of which cases Kramer Levin submitted an amicus brief). He describes the uphill battle in oral argument in Dale v. Boy Scouts and the increasing respect accorded the LGBT equality position in three subsequent arguments in Lawrence v. Texas, United States v. Windsor, and last Tuesday's argument in Obergefell v. Hodges -- which not only signaled a likely nationwide victory for marriage equality, but also seemed to mark a breakthrough in respect and acceptance for the LGBT community.
