Kramer Levin has obtained a special permit from the NYC City Planning Commission for the restoration and enlargement of 1290 Madison Avenue, a residential building with ground floor retail located at the southwest corner of West 92nd Street, and within the Carnegie Hill Historic District. The approval will allow for the full restoration of the building’s historic façde, the addition of a full seventh floor, and the enlargement of the building footprint in order to add a new code-compliant elevator and stairways. The special permit includes zoning waivers relating to building height, façde recesses, yard requirements and court requirements. The approval also includes a requirement for a continuing maintenance and preservation program for the landmarked building. The Kramer Levin team was led by Land Use partner Gary R. Tarnoff and planning and development specialist Jeff Mulligan.
